Good morning! I can certainly feel the 'winter' in today, and aside from the fact that I was just starting to work on a summery sort of dress (I know, I left my run totally late!!), I'm excited!
I wanted to show you a couple of homely things I've found this last month....
I'm loving stripes... like seriously, I'm in love with them. Mr. home.made asked me when i bought this cutie home... so what is this basket for? I quickly changed the topic ;) You don't need to have a purpose when you find darlings like this!!
Beautiful antique baking cups - I am so excited to have these. They are different shapes - hearts, round, diamond etc.... I love to see them just sitting there in my kitchen! Cheery!
I picked up this HUGE cane basket for $15 - such a bargain and it's really solid! Perfect for hiding err... holding Ada's toys in :D
Anyhow, I'm off to enjoy coffee and a brownie outside before the babe wakes up - I love how warm and friendly the sun feels in winter....

Mother's care, nurture, sacrifice, never stop! Being a mum is so much more than biologically being a 'parent' - there are mothers all around us! They are kind, they are women who protect, who speak for those who can't - they have compassion for others. I wanted to share how touched I am by the strength of many women who have lost their mums, babies, pregnancies... For all you beautiful women - today I want to celebrate you. I know that sometimes it takes the same strength to be a mum, as it does to not be. Your strength and courage is beyond words.

It's such a lovely afternoon here... baby is having a nap, dishes are done, and as i sat down in my sunny dining room/sewing room/office ;) I decided that I'd put together a little tutorial thats been on my mind a while. A few weeks ago, I made a cute lined jacket for miss Ada but it ended up miles to big. Rather than change the size of the whole jacket (I want it to fit her for longer!), I decided to alter the sleeves.
Now - don't be fooled, the title of my post sounds kind of boring but this little trick nearly knocked me off my chair ;) It allows you to alter the sleeve length of your jacket without ruining the outer material. Many thanks to my lovely Auntie Ros (aren't family the best!) for sharing. Here we go....
* note: this will only work for a jacket that has lining.... oh and it's my first tutorial, so I may not be the best at explaining! I'm trying :) Don't hesitate to ask me any questions! *
STEP ONE: Decide how long the sleeves need to be (I used a jacket/top that currently fits Ada well, as a guide) - and from there, how much length needs to come off... for me, this was approx. 8cm.
STEP TWO: Pull out the lining of the jacket - and measure a section to half of your above measurement (so half of was mine was 4cm) and pin together. Because the lining is obviously doubled over in your hand, this equals your original measurement (to come off)... Essentially, the 'chunk' of lining you're grabbing with your hand, is the measurement your sleeves need to be shortened by.
STEP THREE: Sew the layers of LINING together with a straight stitch (don't forget to secure at the start and at the end so it doesn't unravel!)
STEP FOUR: Work the jacket sleeve down again - the lining should pull the outer material in (well not all by itself :) You'll need to help!).
And you're done! Told you it was easy! And once that babe of yours grows you can let the sleeves down again, and you haven't put any 'stitch' holes in anything! :D
